Today after work we walked back into Cuenca with a Baldrick like cunning plan to take the hop on hop off tren around the town. It was seven Euro each so we had to bite the bullet a bit on the old cost front but it would almost certainly be worth it. There are about 8 stops on the route so we were excited to take in the vistas and panoramas that lay ahead. As is always the case with a Baldrick cunning plan there is going to be a flaw. It is Sunday, I hear you all shout in unison, the tren doesn't run on Sundays but no, it was much more bizarre than that.
We decided to join the train, which does run on a Sunday, at stop number 4 with the intention of doing the full circle. We checked the sign to get the time and with German like efficiency and less than one minute late the Tren pulled into the stop. Only it didn't stop. It doesn't stop. They are not stops apparently. So it's not really a hop on hop off tren. It's not a hop on hop off anything. Still, all's well that ends well because we are fourteen Euro up on the deal.
We did not let it stop us scaling the heights to bring you some amazing shots of the Casas colgadas (hanging houses) of Cuenca.
This one is pretty hanging
Across the shoogly bridge
After the non hop on non hop off experience we decided just to walk back to the Kayak for a relaxing afternoon. We were glad to get the shoes off I can say.
No self respecting blog entry is complete without a door picture so here is today's door. A rather splendid affair of wooden construction with arch top and big pillar things that make it look braw.

On our sojourn we stumbled upon this guy who was standing on a rock with a sheep. Looks like he has been there a while but there was nothing to indicate who he is (or was) or why they stuck him on top of that big rock. The sheep looks, well a bit sheepish.
We found our Cuenca sign but sadly due to poor lighting conditions and the inability of the photographer to (a) realise and (b) do anything about it the faces might as well not be there. It is Sheila though, standing beside the Cuenca sign. I would upload the one of me but it would only be another disappointment and not worth all the faffing about that I need to do to get the pictures from the phone to the blog. Upload to the google drive, download to the laptop upload to the blog. I'm not sure its worth any of this.
Well unless there's a last minute drama left in today that's the news. Mountie Jack is in the huff because I wouldn't let him go on the train. I told him his responsibility was clear, that he is to guard the Kayak in our absences. He accepted that that is why he was hired but I think I can sense a certain smugness in his expression this evening. Who even heard of a non hop on, non hop off, hop on hop off tren? Night night.
