After our brief return home we are once again on the move. A couple of essential jobs done at home and we can start again. It will be another fairly short trip because we are flying "home" to Scotland for the Christmas break. As we bask here in the hot afternoon sunshine I am tempted to ask myself why?
While I was home (Spain home) I got to thinking about how much, or indeed how little, I really know about Spain and it's history. I know we live in Alicante Province and Valencia Region so a little investigation reveals that there are 17 Autonomous regions and 2 Autonomous cities (more about them later). Most of the regions have more than one province so we have decided that we will try to visit them all and stay at least one night in each province.
This brings me nicely to a question. How many LAND BORDERS has Spain got? Now, now, no cheating think about it and no googling!
Here's a picture while you are thinking so as you don't cheat. Here is a nice door to be going on with.
Ok so France and Portugal right, that's two, then there's Gibraltar that's three. Now you probably also know about Andorra a tiny country that lies between France and Spain so now we are at 4. And you are probably thinking that's it becasue there's nowhere left to have a land border. If you are a keen quizzer however, you will probably know that that is NOT them all for the two Autonomous cities referred to above are actually in North Africa and so there is also a land border with Morocco. The two Autonomous cities are Ceuta and Melilla. Did you get it right? FIVE land borders.
So back to our new plan. We hope tpo spend at least one night in each province of each autonomous region. No rush, no timetable. Just a plan. 19 Autonomous regions and 55 Provinces. To date we have done EIGHT so another 44 to hit target. Data below for anyone sufficiently interested.
