"Home" away from Home

Very quick update to say that we have arrived back "home" in Glenrothes where we will remain for a few weeks before continuing the next leg of the trip.  Watch this space for further exciting episodes.

What's the Jaca?

Today we have moved a shortish distance north to Jaca. When I was a child there was a childrens program called Jackanory and it became (at least in my world) a rhyming slang, what's the jackanory? What's the story. Of course I shortened it to what's the jaca? So here is the Jaca. Jaca allows us to tick off another province and complete an autonomous region. We have now done all three provinces of Aragón because Jaca is in Huesca. The weather on the journey has been pretty bad with a lot of rain and it is pretty cold. A bit like Scotland on a good day! We managed a quick walk into the town centre and were astonished by the number of people going about the town. It was pretty busy and we did not really undertsand why. You are probably aware of the Camino de Santiago which is a famous walk along the north coast of Spain ending at Santiago de Compostela. Kuldiga

I have been really bad with my updates with nothing for a couple of weeks so I am now playing catch up.  After we left Riga we took a slight detour because we had read that Kuldiga was a nice place to visit. It has the widest waterfall in Europe and so we though why not. We could not see any formal camp sites close by so elected for a free overnight stop in an empty carpark just behind the small pond.  After a peaceful night we were off to explore the town on what can only be described as a beautiful morning. So my first picture for you is a waterfall and I can almost hear you thinking that it does not look very wide. And you would be correct for this is NOT the widest waterfall it is simply a waterfall that we passed on the way to the widest waterfall. And so our walk brought us very quickly to what IS the widest waterfall in Europe and the first thing that must be said is that it is certainly not also the highest. We have a cunning plan.

After our brief return home we are once again on the move. A couple of essential jobs done at home and we can start again. It will be another fairly short trip because we are flying "home" to Scotland for the Christmas break. As we bask here in the hot afternoon sunshine I am tempted to ask myself why? While I was home (Spain home) I got to thinking about how much, or indeed how little, I really know about Spain and it's history. I know we live in Alicante Province and Valencia Region so a little investigation reveals that there are 17 Autonomous regions and 2 Autonomous cities (more about them later). Most of the regions have more than one province so we have decided that we will try to visit them all and stay at least one night in each province. This brings me nicely to a question.
