Hello gang, I bet that you were worried yesterday when there was no post. Yesterday was really a bit of a nothing day. We drove from Cuenca to Guadalajara just a little north-east from Madrid. We had intended staying a couple of days there but decided for a number of reasons that I do not need to elaborate upon, to move on again today and we have just arrived in Soria.
Let's provide the Google info again
Soria is a city in north-central Spain. It's known for its medieval streets and Romanesque architecture. The 12th-century Church of Santo Domingo has an intricately carved portico. The Museo Numantino’s archaeological collection includes artifacts from ancient cemeteries, painted ceramics and the bones of an extinct species of elephant. The sprawling Alameda de Cervantes park has an old hermitage and a bandstand. ― Google
Our "campsite" is right alongside the river Duoro. I have not mentioned it yet but to date we have spent zero nights on a campstie and zero Euro on fees. The roadside facitilites are really good in Spain. Last night for example we were able to officially dump our waste water and chemical toilet waste and top up with fresh water. All for zero Euro. This "site" here has no such facitilites for dump or top up but is a free parking spot. We can easily manage three days without replenishment.
On route we passed a massive resevoir and took the non-motorway passage over the mountains. We had lunch at 1400m above sea level.

The resevoir holds a lot of water
Down the gorge behind the dam
The dam looks natural (and might be) but it is stopping a lot of water exiting down a very steep gorge.
As we travelled we spotted a castle thing on top of a hill and beside it was a pointy hill and I thought. "where is John Blackwood when you need him"? When I used to travel with John he would know all about pointy hills and not so pointy hills and he was always able to explain how they got there. I think he is so old that he saw them forming and that is how he knows that stuff. Anyway John, if you read this, I thought that really pointy ones were probably extinct volcanoes but this one definitely looks like it is made of layers. So how did it get so pointy?
By the way, the roads were like this again almost all day. It is such a pleasure to take the long way here when you are practically the only vehicle on the road. We could almost have stopped in the middle here for lunch and not troubled anyone.
There were two very frequently occurring road signs today that are worthy of some mention. One was of a Bull (or maybe a cow with small horns) but it was casually standing as a warning that there could be bulls (or cows) to be mindful of. The second was of a leaping deer with a graphic indication that a deer might suddenly leap in front of a car. I thought well we have a motorhome not a car but perhaps we should still be mindful that the deer may not be able to differentiate between the two. We travelled many miles (well actually they are kilometres here in Spain but you get my gist) through the deer and bull/cow infested countryside, ever vigilant should one (or more) of these animals amble or leap into our pathway. It was very demanding, maintaining such a high state of alertness and I know what you are thinking. You are thinking that during the entire journey we never saw a single bull, cow or deer, leaping or otherwise but you would be wrong. Although there were no bulls or cows to be seen we did see two deer although they could not be described as being in anything resembling a leaping state. They were happily (well to be fair I am assuming a state of happiness here) grazing in an area of luscious greenery. Perhaps they were waiting and watching for a passing car to leap out in front of I am not certain. Anyway I am delighted to say we have arrived in Soria and I will post some pictures of this place in due course.
Mountie Jack asked me to say hi to you all.
